ECO-VILLAGE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT SUPPORTED BY AZIM PREMJI FOUNDATION.


Agragamee has received the Sanction for a Project from AZIM PREMJI FOUNDATION for a 2-year project titled:

  Eco-Village Development with Climate Smart Agriculture to Ensure Food, Nutrition and Livelihood Securities of Indigenous Smallholder Families

Project Area:

  25 Villages of Tentulikhunti Block in Nabarangpur District of Odisha

Project Goal:

  Enhance the income of 600 farmers by converting 600 acres of wasteland into farmland and promoting fruit orchards and intercropping, across 25 villages in Tentulikhunti block, Nabarangpur district, Odisha.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

Overall Objective :

  Increased self-reliance of poor tribal communities in Nabarangpur District of Odisha.

  To improve the livelihood and capacity to cope with climate change with focus on climate smart agriculture through increased income, production, value addition and development of community-based organizations of 600 tribal families from 25 villages.
  To achieve food and nutritional securities with economic sustainability through training and capacity building of family farmer and women eco-leaders.

Major Activities:

Irrigation and land development

  Conduct community meetings, regular follow up with farmers (~600 farmers)
  Develop a model drip irrigation system (~5 systems)
  Conduct convergence meetings with government officials
  Develop wasteland into farmland (Of the ~600 acres, ~252 acres will be developed through convergence in this phase. Rest ~348 acres has already been developed in the last phase)

Farmland development

  Conduct regular follow-ups with farmers
  Provide plantation gap filling, seed support, and fencing repair to farmers (~600 acres)
  Establish a nursery

Promotion and Marketing of Agri-Horticulture products through existing Farmer Producer Company:

  Organize regular meetings & support the existing Farmer Producer Company
  Conduct regular follow up with farmers on collectivization and marketing of produce
  Conduct skill-building training for women federation members (~200 women in 50 groups)
  Establish a sales outlet for Agri-Horticulture products
