State Level RTI Forum 2018 at Hotel Presidency, Bhubaneswar

Agragamee has organised State Level RTI Forum 2018 at Hotel Presidency, Bhubaneswar with collaboration of European Union on 12th November 2018. Eight numbers of partner NGO supported this program. Government officials, Members of Distict RTI Forum, RTI Activists, NGOs/ CBOs, Academics, Media Persons were participated in the event.

In the inaugural address Prof. Radha Mohan, Former Soochana Commissioner, Govt. of Odisha, spoke that Govt. has given power to the common people and RTI is built to strength the democracy.He shared that RTI is helpful as well as danger as Govt. and other agencies try to squeeze the law. Ms. Sashiprabha Bindhani, Soochana Commissioner, said that people should be careful about misleading information. She asked to be very careful and alert about viral and deceptive information.
Mr. Achyut Das, Director, Agragamee, shared 5 years journey of EU- Agragamee project ” Addressing Income Insecurity of Under Privileged Communities by Improving Access to Relevant Government Schemes” in 100 Gram Panchayats of 20 blocks of 10. tribal districts. The project has been focusing on five major aspects which are Education, Health and Nutrition, ICDS, NREGS and Governance. Agragamee-EU worked for RTI rule 4.1(B) which deals with “So Motto Disclosure” of information to the public to access the Government schemes. He shared the the success of increase involvement and participation of women in Gram Sabha, Palli Sabha, empowerment for their rights etc.

Mrs. Vidhya Das, Joint Director, Agragamee, said that the right to information is not only for sharing of information but also related to good governance. Government has to develop number of rules for PESA Act, MGNREGS, for different social schemes. Social audit is needed for different departments for sharing information for the benefit of the citizen of India. Education and information are two vital weapon for the development of democracy.

Dr. Aurobindo Behera, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Citizen of Good Governance, addressed that, no one should feel week in a democratic country like India. a citizen has the right to ask to question to the Governance. By helping each other, by encouraging each other we can develop good governance where RTI will be the source.

RTI Activists of 10 projected districts were facilitated for their excellent work by the honorable guests of the event.

RTI activists of the grass root level (underprivileged community) participated and shared their experience. They were Mrs. Sunadei Saunta, Mrs. Saibani Majhi from Koraput district, Mrs. Sumani Jhodia, Mr. Jayachandra Majhi from Rayagada district, Mrs. Jatani Kahanr, Mr. Sudarshan Kahanr, Mrs. Lalita Pradhan from Kandhamal district, Mr. Era Padiami from Malkangiri district, Mrs. Suryamani Ho, Mrs. Durgi Mandi from Mayurbhanj district, Mr. Laki Santa from Nabarangpur district, Mr.Premananda Sahu from Balangir district, Mr. Tankadhar Bagarti from Kalahandi district.
